12-Minute Monster Hunter World TGS2017 Gameplay

So first off, one of the biggest difference in Monster Hunter World is that tracking the monster becomes a more immersive experience to players with the newly introduced Scout Flies. Scout Flies are like living paintballs, players will have to find tracks left behind be the monster they are hunting to send their Scout Flies after it (image below).

The first thing you that greets you is the newly enhanced ecosystem of Monster Hunter World. The world feels a lot more flourished compared to other titles in the series and the new behaviours of each creature really makes a difference in making the world feel more alive than scripted.

Unlike Unstable Environments in previous Monster Hunter games, in Monster Hunter World, players can easily wander into monsters besides their target, as seen above. As previously announced, these can be used to the player’s advantage, as more factions have been introduced, meaning monsters no longer just target Hunters by default.

In terms of the actual combat/hunt, the game generally feels and players like previous titles in the series with additional new features. The weapons available are the same with the latest released version (Monster Hunter Double Cross – MHXX).

New features being introduced to players include Fast Travel and additional gears/cloaks which has different effects, from enhanced camouflage, to taunting the monster and gliding. Additionally, the game introduces an insane amount of detail to the world, not only in the ecosystem, but the little things, from splashes when falling/running in water, light reflections, down to even the mud thrown at players by Barroth! The game truly gives a new experience to the Monster Hunter series and does a great job in making players feel like a genuine hunter, rather than just a monster slayer like in the previous titles.

As a final conclusion, before trying the demo, the change of art style in Monster Hunter World did throw me back a little, but for what it’s worth, Monster Hunter World still genuinely feels like a Monster Hunter game. The new world makes finding the monster a living part of the game, current Monster Hunter games which have monsters scripted to start in one zone and move around in a rotation until the player finds them.

Even if you’re not a big fan of the Monster Hunter series, the new settings of Monster Hunter World definitely makes the game worth a try. For fans of the series, there really isn’t any reason to not play Monster Hunter World. As far as I can tell, the demo is living up to the hype!
